April 25th, my dad was at work when he was told to search for damaged goods in a UPS truck. Just when he entered the truck a soccer goal post fell and hit him on the head. He was given a concussion, a broken tooth, a sprained neck, and a damaged clavicle. When an MRI was taken of his neck, doctors found that a disk slipped out of place and is pinching the nerves on his left shoulder. Because of this his left arm is numb and always freezing. Because of this, my dad couldn’t work anymore and was put on worker’s compensation. When we thought it couldn’t get worse, he then had a heart attack May 8th. My mom had to quit her job to stay home and take care of him and take him to his many doctors.

Even before my father’s injuries we were suffering financially. We’re a family of five living in a one bedroom apartment, so you can probably imagine the financial state we’re in. Because of my father’s doctor appointments and constant hospital visits, we’re up to our necks with thousands of dollars worth of bills. At this very moment the cable and electric can go out at any moment because we don’t have the money to pay it. We also have other needs such as school supplies and a car that doesn’t break down, but we can’t buy them because no one will help us financially. My mother went to social services for help, but they said that the $300 dollars we receive a week from worker’s compensation is too much for us to receive help and continued to decrease the amount of foodstamps we receive. The $300 dollars we get weekly goes straight to the $1,090 rent we pay to live in this hell hole, a court, and lawyers from past debts; after that there’s nothing left for us.

My mother is scared to death that we’ll be thrown out and have to live in the street if this keeps up. I remember when the recession was hitting hard; we hit a point where we were living in the dark and had no food because my dad had lost his job. I don’t want to hit that point again. This is where you can help.

I am holding commissions to help raise money to go towards the thousands of dollars of debt we have. Even if it’s just $20, we’re more than great full to receive that.
